Description
A greetings card derived from The War Illustrated magazine. The Germans, with a view to rushing our trenches, took in their barbed-wire and made a gap. Second-Lieutenant Reid McGregor, of the 2nd Gordon Highlanders, went to one of his machine guns and, finding all team killed or wounded, worked the Maxim single-handed and held off the enemy. For this act of courage, 2Lt McGregor was awarded the Military Cross.
